Keep a free cell available when possible. Filling all four may prevent an otherwise useful sequence from moving.
Work toward buried aces without blocking access to the small cards they need. Every card is visible, so inspect a whole column before using its top card.
A vacant column is more flexible than one free cell. Plan the order of temporary moves, including where each parked card will return.
